Łódź
Łódź is situated in the centre of Poland. With about 800,000 of habitants, Łódź is the second largest city of the country.
Łódź has reputation of a boring city of factory chimneys. This is not true! Today's Łódź welcomes visitors with beautifully refurbished palaces and luxury residences of great factory magnates immersed in splendid, green ocean of parks. Łódź is an unrivalled capital of a fantastic, nineteenth-century industrial architecture. Art Nouveau, eclecticism and the red bricks of the old factories create the unique atmosphere of the city.
In the centre of Poland where all roads from the north to the south and from the east to the west meet, Łódź is placed also on the crossroad of four cultures. For 150 years Poles, Jews, Germans, Russians built the legend of Polish ''promised land'' based on textile industry. In Łódź one can find many beautiful monuments of these four cultures, which reminds us about peaceful and effective coexistence of the nations.
The participants of the conference can spend a wonderful time in Łódź. We recommend to walk down famous Piotrkowska Street, the city's pride, full of pubs, restaurants and shops and enjoy its wonderful ambiance. One can also take a great delight in visiting many museums (Museum of Textiles, Museum of Cinematography, Museum of the City Łódź, Museum of Art - one of the oldest in Europe) or the shopping and entertainment centre Manufaktura transformed from the old industrial buildings.
